There is Hope for Your Marriage

Good stories inspire us. Whether it is a great movie or a book you can't put down, a powerful narrative has the unique ability to remind us of what is possible. Somehow, God uses meaningful stories to center us -- to confirm in our hearts of the way things should be. They bring clarity and confidence to our lives.

Beyond just fictional stories, I believe that our personal stories also have the power to inspire. Maybe even more so, because our stories are true. When they fit into the larger narrative of God's miraculous and redemptive activity in the world, they remind others that He is real and present and faithful.

In a world where many are skeptical of the power of God, this is desperately needed. Most people count on Hollywood special effects to dazzle them when there is a powerful God who is close by and who is still in the business of doing stuff that makes us stand in awe.

Sadly, most people don't take the time to tell their stories. When you are struggling in some area of life, perhaps the most important thing you need to hear is someone's story of God's rescue. That's why the oral tradition of most historical cultures was so important: kids and grandkids regularly heard the inspiring tales of God's faithfulness in their parents' and grandparents' lives.

Today, I want to invite you to listen to a story.

It's a story about a marriage that was rescued when all hope was lost. Jenifer's Real Life Mom Show Podcast has been pushing great parenting help for several months now. Today on the podcast, Jordan (Jen's partner in crime) allows her mother to tell the story of her marriage. And it's a story that you need to hear.

She and her husband have been happily married for two years. Unfortunately, they have been actually married for more like 35 years. So there's obviously a story to tell.

I could go on and on about how wonderful and encouraging it is, but that would be like dropping movie spoilers and you wouldn't like that. So let me just say this: you need to listen to it. Because it's a great story. It was a hard, difficult, painful story....but it's awesome. And, like He is prone to do, God is present throughout the journey but He brings a beautiful rescue in the end.

Please...I beg you....take some time and listen to it. All the episodes on The Real Life Mom Show are terrific and encouraging, but Episode 9 is a story you will want to hear.

Then make sure that you are telling an awesome story with your own life. (And don't forget to tell your kids all about it!)
